Glandford village in Norfolk, England, UK.
Glandford is such a pretty place that nature rarely stages a more delightful
scene. The village consists of cottages with Flemish gables. To travel from
Glandford towards Cley you will have to pass through a ford.
Its church is set in a garden on the hill overlooking the wooded valley where
the River Glaven flows to the sea. Every window including the porch and the
vestry has stained glass and is beautiful to behold. Several of the items to see
were sculptured in Florence and the woodcarving is marvellous. In the vestry you
will find a picture of the ruined church and a list of all the people involved
in the restoration, it was restored between 1899 and 1906 in memory of Sir
Alfred Jodrell’s mother.
Sir Alfred Jodrell also gifted the village with his private collection of
shells. There are shells from all over the world, some carved, some painted.
There are also some lovely jewels and many other beautiful items to be seen. He
also sent local children to nearby Holt in a covered wagon long before the
education authorities thought to do so. There are so many small businesses
around in this area it is like a voyage of discovery.
